The highly anticipated Arcade-Cripple Creek Trail Project is moving into the construction phase this fall. The project is a result of years of collaboration between the City, community, park districts, school district, SMUD and other stakeholders.
On August 11, 2022, City Council awarded the construction contract for the Arcade-Cripple Creek Trail Project to Central Valley Engineering & Asphalt.
The 2.9-mile multi-use trail will provide bicycle and pedestrian facilities largely following an existing SMUD overhead transmission corridor between Arcade Creek Park Preserve and Wachtel Way in Citrus Heights with a small portion in Orangevale.
The trail is part of the Sacramento Area Council of Government (SACOG) Regional Trail Network and is a key step to connect to the broader regional trail system in Roseville, Sacramento County, and ultimately Folsom to the American River Parkway.
Trail features include:
The project is funded from a number of different sources ranging from grants, park impact fees, storm water funds to tree mitigation funds, all packaged together to build the project. The bulk of the funding comes from an Active Transportation Program (ATP) Grant.
