Council Member Mel Turner was elected to the City Council in November 2010 and re-elected in November 2014. He served as Mayor in 2014. Prior to becoming a Council Member, Mel served on the Planning Commission and represented the city on the Sacramento County Sheriff's Community Outreach Advisory Board (SOSAB). He is very active in community service and currently serves as Vice President of the Citrus Heights Police Department's Police Activities League and is a member of the Citrus Heights Rotary Club.
Mel and his wife, Connie of 33 years, relocated to Citrus Heights from San Mateo County in 1980. They raised 2 children very successfully in this community and their life here has been good. Mel enjoys backpacking, fly fishing, bicycling, and kayaking.
Mel spent approximately 28 years in law enforcement administration as an Adult Probation Officer in San Mateo County, a Crime Prevention Official with the San Mateo Police Department and a Law Enforcement Administrator with the State of California's Department of Justice and the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He also worked in Human Resources as a supervisor and manager in state and local government. He currently teaches classes at University of San Francisco and Sacramento City College as a member of the Adjunct Faculty.
His priorities for Citrus Heights include aggressive economic development, public safety and security, supporting programs geared to keep our youth busy and motivated to do good deeds, and a commitment to support our neighborhoods.
