Citrus Heights Red, White & Blue Parade Update

Citrus Heights Red White and Blue Parade

The Citrus Heights Red, White & Blue Parade was a successful grassroots event for many years. After careful consideration of several factors, the City has decided to not produce the Red, White & Blue Parade in 2019 and instead focus on supporting other growing events, and preparing for a signature event in 2020.

While the parade was a successful event in the city for many years, there has been declining public participation in the planning efforts, parade entries, and event attendance in recent years.

Also, as traffic has increased on Sunrise Boulevard over the years, so has the City's obligation to ensure appropriate safety measures for the parade. Due to recent evaluations both by Sacramento County and the City, if the City were to move forward with the parade it would require professional traffic control measures at a much greater expense to the City and the event budget. Additionally, while surrounding businesses and the Sunrise MarketPlace have always been supportive partners of the City, the MarketPlace has put its efforts into new, exciting summer events and as a result have reduced capacity to support the parade.

Events such as the 20th Anniversary Block Party, Howl-O-Ween, Sunday FunDay, and others have become more successful than ever and are drawing thousands of residents from all over the Citrus Heights community and region. While the City will not be producing a parade this year, we plan to take the existing resources to enhance these successful, unique, and growing events.

We look forward to working on a signature event slated for 2020 with the Citrus Heights community. We plan for this event to be something fresh and unique for Citrus Heights and want to involve residents in the planning process to hear what event you would like to see in your City. We will announce these efforts and ways for you to be involved in the coming year.
