Laws related to smoking, secondhand smoke, and tobacco have been around for decades, but over the past couple years California laws have expanded to include electronic smoking devices (vaping) and marijuana. On October 25th, the City Council will be considering revisions to the city's current smoking regulations that will not only bring the city's regulations into conformance with state law, but will expand areas where smoking will be prohibited. If approved, smoking will be prohibited in all public parks, trails, nature preserves, and in outdoor dining areas. In addition, the smoking of marijuana (both medical and non-medical) will be prohibited in all public places. The City of Citrus Heights would join several other cities and counties that have recently passed ordinances restricting smoking in outdoor public places, protecting customers, employees and others from secondhand smoke exposure.
