Be Storm Ready
Citrus Heights provides sandbags for CITRUS HEIGHTS RESIDENTS ONLY. Proof of residency will be checked. If you do not live in Citrus Heights, you will need to contact your local agency (City of Roseville, Sacramento County, Placer County, etc.) for sandbag information.
The City is able to provide limited, unfilled sandbags to our residents through the General Services Department. Residents may come to City Hall at 6360 Fountain Square Drive during normal business hours (M-F, 8-5), provide proper identification showing Citrus Heights residency, and will be provided with a limited number of empty sandbags to be self-filled at the following the locations:
· C-Bar-C Park (8275 Oak Avenue); or
· City Hall located at 6360 Fountain Square Drive
The City will maintain these two locations throughout the 2017-2018 storm season for sand, and in preparation for major storm events. We strongly encourage residents who have experienced flooding in the past to prepare well in advance of the expected rainfall this year. It is strongly encouraged that residents bring their own shovels to the sand locations.
The City encourages residents to limit the quantity of bags to the amount they can safely transport in their vehicles. The filled sandbags weigh approximately 30 pounds each (filled halfway). More than 10 bags is too much weight for most cars; and 20 bags is generally the limit a half-ton pickup truck can safely transport. This information may change, subject to sand and bag supplies and availability.
Residents may also contact local home improvement stores to purchase sand and bags as well. You can also download instructions for sandbag filling and laying (PDF). For additional information or questions, please contact the General Services Department at 916-727-4770 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Keep Storm Drains Clear
Debris such as leaves and twigs can prevent water from flowing from gutters into storm drains and cause localized flooding. To prevent clogged drains, properly dispose of yard waste in your green waste bin. You may contact Republic Services to request an additional green waste container (residential customers are allowed 1 additional free green waste or mixed recycling container). Additionally, Citrus Heights residential customers may set out up to six extra leaf bags curbside along with your regularly scheduled green waste pickup at no extra charge (during leaf drop season only). If you see a clogged storm drain, please contact the General Services Department at 916-727-4770. If safe, you may attempt to remove the debris with a garden rake. Due to the volume of calls, there is limited staff available during a storm event. Current radar images of rainfall in the Sacramento region are available from the National Weather Service (NWS).
